"I'm sorry." Are those two little words so difficult to say? Perhaps and maybe because they hold such enormous power. Sorry doesn't mean you are wrong but sometimes if an honest apology can mend relationships, dissolve anger, or heal a broken heart, why not? I think being incapable of apologizing sincerely from the heart can be a real character flaw. Taking a step back may seem like giving up on the friendship. Sometimes people said keeping quiet; after you've said all you can, is as powerful as speaking up. Eventually, I chose to say "sorry" and I did, but there was no response.
